Watch: how your CPD works (2 minutes)

A step-by-step walk-through with screenshots, from your identity check to your record of completion. No sound needed.

  1. Choose your CPD

Tell us the licence categories you hold, your licence class and the areas of practice you work in. It takes about 2 minutes. We build your plan with every compulsory topic you need, and topics shared between your areas are only done once.

  2. Check your plan and pay

You'll see your topics, the hours they give each area of practice, and your price before you pay. Chose the wrong areas? You can change them any time before payment.

  3. Verify your identity (once only)

Before your first topic, you complete a 2-minute photo ID check: a photo of your driver licence or passport and a selfie photo. NSW Fair Trading requires that the licence holder personally completes their CPD. You only do this once.

  4. Quick face checks at each topic

Each topic starts with a 10-second face check that matches you to the ID you verified, and there's another quick check before the assessment. No ID card needed, just your webcam.

  5. Take part with your camera on

Your camera must be on, with your face clearly visible, for the whole session. Bruce, your presenter, asks a question on each slide and you answer it before moving on. Each presentation has a minimum time based on the topic's hours: compulsory CPD must be interactive, so it can't be rushed.

  6. Complete the assessment

Each topic finishes with a scenario-based assessment of 25 questions, with a 40 minute time limit per attempt. The timer starts when you begin. Submit before the 40 minutes are up: an attempt not submitted in time is lost and still counts as one of your attempts. The pass mark is 80% and you have 3 attempts.

  7. Get your records

You receive a record of completion for each topic. When every area you declared has its required hours, you can download your overall CPD 2026/27 certificate. We report your completions to NSW Fair Trading each month.

What you'll need

  • A computer or laptop with a webcam, and speakers or headphones (a tablet also works)
  • A reliable internet connection and an up-to-date browser (Chrome, Edge or Safari)
  • Your current driver licence or passport, for the one-off ID check
  • A quiet, well-lit place where your face can be clearly seen
  • Time to work through each topic. You can save and exit a presentation and come back to it, but allow 40 uninterrupted minutes for each assessment

Common questions

I work in more than one area. Do I repeat shared topics?

No. A topic that applies to several of your areas is completed once and counts towards each of them. Your plan and certificate show the hours for every area.

Can someone else do my CPD for me?

No. CPD must be completed personally by the licence holder. That's why we verify your identity and check your face at each topic. If someone else takes part for you, the topic won't count.

What if my camera is off or I step away?

Keep your camera on and stay with the session. If there's no activity for 10 minutes, the presentation pauses and asks if you're still there. If you don't respond within 2 minutes, you'll need a quick face check to continue, and you'll pick up where you left off.

What if a face check doesn't work?

Try again with good light and your face centred. After 3 unsuccessful checks for a topic in one day, that topic is locked for the day. Call us on 1300 454 661 and your trainer can unlock it once they have spoken with you.

What if the ID check doesn't work for me?

You can try again, making sure your ID is clear and your face is well lit. If it still doesn't work, call us on 1300 454 661 and we'll verify your ID another way. If your identity can't be verified, you get a full refund.

Does Real E-training keep a copy of my ID?

No. Our verification partner, Didit, checks your ID and face. We keep only the result of the check. Your biometric information is used only to confirm your identity for CPD.

I'm a Class 1 licensee. Is there anything extra?

Yes. Class 1 licensees also complete a 5-hour accredited Class 1 forum, which is a separate enrolment (see the Class 1 forum page), and AUSTRAC's AML/CTF training if it applies to your areas. The AUSTRAC training is done directly with AUSTRAC. Licensees in charge must also keep their agency training plan up to date.

How long is the assessment?

Each assessment has 25 questions and a 40 minute time limit per attempt, which is plenty of time if you have taken part in the presentation and read the learner guide. Make sure you have 40 uninterrupted minutes before you start, because the timer keeps running once you begin. If you do not submit within the 40 minutes, the attempt is lost and still counts as one of your 3 attempts.

When do I need to finish?

The CPD year runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Enrolments close at 4pm on 30 June 2027, and CPD can't be carried over.

Full details are in our CPD terms and conditions. Questions? Call 1300 454 661.
